WHEW! We’re still reeling from a wonderful night of both beautiful and electric African music courtesy of last Thursday’s guests, Senegal’s BOUJOU BADIALY CISSOKO and Stones Throw Record’s DJ EGON! The Afro Funke’ crowd were wooed by the lovely and delicate sounds of Cissoko’s live kora music and then quickly sparked into a frenzy by Egon’s handpicked playlist of deep, rare and uncut African rhythms. BIG Thanks to musicians BOBBYE HALL, IAN WALKER and DOMINIC DEAN BREAUX for their excellent work jamming with Cissoko, and to SHANNON MICHAEL TERRY and KEITH JONES for making the show possible!

Eothen Alapatt, aka Egon, is Stones Throw’s general manager. Alongside art director Jeff Jank, he came on board in 2000 when Peanut Butter Wolf moved the label from San Francisco to Los Angeles.
At Stones Throw, he has produced anthologies such as The Funky 16 Corners and The Stark Reality’s Now. He has coordinated and/or A&Red for projects as varied as Madlib and DOOM’s Madvillainy,
Chrome Children, Tortoise’s Bumps and a bunch of others.
He founded his own label, Now-Again in 2002 to focus on reissues of regional American funk and soul. Funk bands such as the L.A. Carnival, Ebony Rhythm Band, Kashmere Stage Band and Amnesty
have seen their music released on Now-Again. Now-Again also represents catalogs that range from the superb Brasilian psychedelia (Lula Cortes, Marconi Notaro and Satwa) to the funk and soul
that Now-Again is known for (the Soultex, Enyx, Lightin’ are only three of the vast catalogs Now-Again has at its disposal).
Recently, Egon has taken more to new artist development and signings on Now-Again, with bands such as Malcolm Catto’s Heliocentrics, production team MRR-ADM (formerly known as MHE), the
Whitefield Brothers and Mr. Chop. And, drawing from its resources ofclear-able samples , Now-Again also releases limited edition “library” releases of music by the likes of Oh No,
Koushik and Edan.
Egon partnered with Peanut Butter Wolf to found the Soul-Cal imprint in 2003. This imprint, which currently focuses on American modern soul and disco, is set to break out as a
Egon often DJs sets of funk and psychedelia from around the globe, both at his weekly residency Funky Sole in Los Angeles, and at venues from London to Tokyo and all places in between.

Badialy Cissoko was born in Senegal, West Africa, in the vilige of Kazamasa. Born into a greot family, Badialy’s grandfather
is still to this day King of the Kora. His father is a famous musician, and his mother a beautiful singer. Badialy has been playing
the Kora , drumming, singing and dancing since out of the womb. He grew up listening to the sounds of Miles Davis, Jimi Hendrix,
and Bob Marley. His greatest influence, however, is his grandfather, Sougoulou Cissoko. Badialy’s greatest desire is to bridge
his traditional family styles with a moor contemporary feel. “Music has no borders,” says Badialy. He has toured throughout
the world, recorded on many CD’s and motin picture soundtracks.
DIALY THE STORYTELLER is a contemporary blend of Senegalese folk and Americana, that captures the prayers
and masterful Kora (African harp) playing of a West African storyteller, Boujou Badialy Cissoko.
