akumal, y’all.

another slideshow from my Mexico trip in mid-October…these were taken on day three in Quintana Roo at a serene, white powdered, and warm beach across the highway from a small town called Akumal. aside from our gorgeous surroundings, the experience offered all the amenities of a warm backyard pool at the peak of summer, but without the lingering chlorine smell or the possibility of green hair. even having lived in hawai’i, i’ve never been in a natural body of water that was so tranquil, soothing and refreshing…loved every minute out there. there were some small fish swimming around; i even saw a small needle-nosed pike (or something resembling). and yes, i did go in without my hat and shades at one point. several of my amigos went on a snorkeling excursion, while some of us went and grubbed at a small and saborlicious local loncheria. the best thing is that it was the one excursion in which everyone in our group (well, almost) came along! akumal, y’all.

shook.

i make it a point to view as many of the latest TED Talks that i can each week, but honestly while there are many that are eye opening, thought provoking and informative, few have really inspired me like this one. this is artist Phil Hansen encouraging us to “Embrace The Shake”.

ancient, not ruined.

if you have a few minutes, check out some of my photos from the “ruins” site at Tulum in Quintana Roo, Mexico. i visited the site on two separate occasions during my trip just because it was so amazing there, with a profound and heightened energy permeating the entire locale. the admission was only $57 pesos, which was an incredible bargain for an opportunity to be in such a unique and exquisitely beautiful place in the world.

itza-mazing.

i recently returned from one of the best trips of my life! my friends and i spent seven days on the mayan riviera in playa del carmen, mexico in the state of quintana roo and another four days in a small fishing town just north of the yucatan capital of merida, called progreso. sending much love to my travel companions: ricky, paloma, caro, rachel, aldo, dora, cynthia, david and prescilla!! we had an amazing time hanging, adventuring, dancing, drinking, grubbing, sunning, swimming, laughing and experiencing life together outside of our beloved los angeles.

here is a slideshow of photos that i took on the one day that i spent alone on a tour of the famed mayan ruins at chichen itza. this site is currently one of the seven wonders of the world and october 11, 2013 was an absolutely sublime day to visit, if you didn’t mind dripping with sweat for a few hours and a three-hour bus ride each way from playa ;). hope you enjoy the photos i shot:
