in full bloom.

It’s a Wednesday and I’ve been wandering around the Americas virtually (via YouTube), now finding my ears stuck down in Colombia–which is no surprise for lovers of afro-based roots music. This tune and other marimba-strewn genres like “currulao” are local to the Pacific coast, while more broadly recognized strains such as cumbia, gaita, and champeta are associated with the Carribean regions of Colombia (the coastline is divided nearly in half by Panama). Here’s one that I just had to share…marimba maestro ‘Gualajo’ aka Josè Antonio Torres with his heavy, heavy take on El Florón.
