atypical.

Happy Sunday! Although there are a few other Martinho da Vila songs that I favor over this one, ‘Disritmia’ always catches my ear in the way his voice stands out on the verses, with the rhythm underneath almost staccato, so spare and even. It leaves me really anticipating those big, reliable unison choruses many samba tunes feature. However, the choruses are short and don’t get as large vertically as in most other pagode-style sambas, leaving a unique and interesting contrast between the singer’s tenor and the backup vocals. I also dig MdV’s cadence on the ‘bridge’ coming out of the second chorus, as well as the way the cuica hangs onto its last note! Hope this one catches your ears too 🙂
