I headed into Downtown Los Angeles (DTLA) at noon today to make sure that I caught The Joey Altruda Trio playing their rendition of Vince Guaraldi’s beloved jazz soundtrack to the holiday cartoon classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. The crisp but relatively warm afternoon (upper 50s) made it a perfect setting for the 50th anniversary of the album, which has become a musical gem for Americans of all ages. I got to hang a bit with my friends Amanda and Farah, and have a bowl of the paella from Grand Central Market’s “Bombo” eatery, which made it a great outing all around. Feeling the holiday spirit just a bit more thanks to today. Grateful 🙂
This Thursday DECEMBER 10th, LA JUNTA is co-hosting an Winter Dance Party at DTLA’s LA CITA BAR, featuring superb live music by tropical surfrockers SALT PETAL, dark melodians BLACKWATER JUKEBOX, and one of LA’s newest and most exciting Latin pop ensembles SIN COLOR! Not that you’d ever need an excuse to hang out at LA CITA, but this event will be as good as any. Hope you’ll grab the dancin’ crew and join us. See ya there!!
P.S. This isn’t one of my fliers 😉
In the best possible sense, that is. That’s right. LAS CAFETERAS have sold out their December 12th concert at the El Rey Theater in Los Angeles over two weeks in advance of show night. LA JUNTA SOUND SYSTEM aka deejays DEGRUVME, YUKICITO and yours truly will be providing support sounds on the turntables, along with opening live acts MAKING MOVIES (Kansas City, MO) and MARIACHI MANCHESTER (LA). Hope you already got your tix!
