das w(az)up.

La Junta crew and I are back from a fun, wonderful, and inspiring trip to Tucson, AZ. It was our first time performing as a crew outside of California, having accepted a gracious invitation to do an unprecedented deejay crew takeover of Tucson’s signature Latin music event, El Tambó. Meeting the Tambó familia, sharing the music we love and celebrating life with so many good people of Tucson were definitely the highlights of our journey. It was a true honor to be part of an event that operates with exactly the same ethos in terms of music, community and celebration as our own.

We were also let in on the secret that everyone there knows: Tucson is an amazing place! In the short time that we stayed and in the limited amount of ground that we covered, their city showed us beautiful art in just about every space that we visited, amazing views of nature, fantastic food (and beer!) and friendly, interesting people. We fell in love with Tucson and can’t wait to return!

La Junta and I wish to thank everyone in Tucson whom we met and made us feel so welcome, especially Dirtyverbs, Quiahui, Jackie, Q and Humble Lianess of El Tambó, and the staff at Hotel Congress. Shout outs as well to our LA familia that drove out to join us all the way in AZ: Paloma, Unholy LA, Aldo, Maria. Can’t wait to see you again, Tucson!!

Cheers, All!

We hope that this twelfth month is treating you well so far and that the holidays keep bringing that quality time with the people close to you. With La Junta’s PIÑA monthly coming up on the second Friday of the month–December14–we’re having our good friends come through to do a one night only takeover of the main room! Please come out and greet a couple of our outstanding deejay homies who respectively hold down two of our favorite Latin/World music nights to attend:

MANO (Nu Tropic, LA/OAK/CHI)
FUNKY CARAMELO (Cumbiatón, LA)

La Junta crew will be in Tucson, AZ on this night, scheduled for our own friendly takeover of the awesome El Tambó event, so we’ll be with you in spirit, sharing the music we love on the road. We’re leaving you in highly capable hands, so come out to El Dorado DTLA and dance your pineapples off like you do! We’ll see you again on NYE 😉

Above is the first set of photos from last Friday’s opening event of Old Pasadena‘s Day of the Dead celebration titled ‘SALSA ON THE ALLEY.’

Gratitude to the fine people at Old Pasadena’s management office for providing the awesome space and resources (including people power, of course!) that made for such an amazing evening! Much love to my fam LA JUNTA and the band CUBA RUMBA for the fantastic music throughout the short but jam-packed few hours we had together. Extra thanks to our Salsa instructors and featured performers from PRESTIGE DANCE & FINE ARTS, as well as to our conguero SÓLIDO and saxophonista RUBÉN for their tasteful accompaniment during our deejay sets.

Of course, heartfelt thanks to the nearly five hundered beautiful dancers and supporters who showed up en masse on Big Bang Theory Way and filled it from just about one end to the other. Can’t wait until next time!
