Happy Holidaze, All ~
As the end of the year and end of the decade approaches, I’m doing my best to be out there with you celebrating it all. I’ve posted about my gigs on Xmas night and on New Year’s Eve, but here’s one more, right smack in between both holidays and in the middle of the last full holiday week! It’s a 4th Saturday, which means I’m back in Long Beach rockin’ alongside the homie Eusébio Akasa at the at the fun and lively second floor cantina called Mezcalero LBC. Bring your presence 😉

It’s been a long time since I’ve done it, but I’ll be on Christmas night with Eusébio Akasa and La Flaca Lee of LA/LBC’s Los Carinitos crew at La Cita Bar! Can’t wait to spend this special night celebrating with you!

Tuesday, December 17th…save the date! I’ll be back for more at the ever so cool Hodgepodge LA with the one and only trumpeter/arranger/bandleader/deejay, Todd Simon. We had a blast jamming at Apotheke the last two times we were paired up, so I’m eager to do it all over again. It’s one of the best events to attend on a Tuesday night, and perhaps the best of the week. Alongside the artistic and unique elixir-style cocktails crafted by the resident mixologists, the soulful music and stylish patrons make Hodgepodge an easy and satisfying night out in LA.

Big Announcement! La Junta have been added to Saturday December 14th’s Las Cafeteras concert at DTLA’s Regent Theater. It’ll be an amazing ‘reunion’ with the band since our last official collaborative events happened way back in 2015 with a mini Northern California tour and remix EP. Degruvme, Yukicito and yours truly will be spinning sets before, between and after the bands’ live sets. The evening also features a live performance by San Cha. End the year (and the decade) with a show that you won’t soon forget!
ABOUT LAS CAFETERAS
Las Cafeteras have taken the music scene by storm with their infectious live performances and have crossed-genre and musical borders, playing with bands such as Mexican icons Caifanes, Lila Downs, Colombian superstar Juanes, Los Angeles legends Ozomatli, folk/indie favorites Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra, and most recently with Talib Kweli.
Born and raised east of the Los Angeles river, Las Cafeteras are remixing roots music and telling modern day stories. Las Cafeteras create a vibrant musical fusion with a unique East LA sound and positive message. Their Afro-Mexican beats, rhythms, and rhymes deliver inspiring lyrics that document stories of a community seeking love and justice in the concrete jungle of Los Angeles. Using traditional Son Jarocho instruments like the jarana, requinto, quijada (donkey jawbone) and tarima (a wooden platform), Las Cafeteras sing in English, Spanish, and Spanglish and add a remix of sounds, from rock to hip-hop to rancheras. Las Cafeteras use music as a vehicle to build bridges among different cultures and communities, and create ‘a world where many worlds fit’.
LA Times described Las Cafeteras as “uniquely Angeleno mishmash of punk, hip-hop, beat music, cumbia and rock … live, they’re magnetic.”
