Singer, songwriter, dancer, poet and humanitarian Andrée Belle is heralded for her soulful, sultry, raw, rich vocal tone, an expansive range from ethereal Minnie Riperton-esque highs to a bluesy guttural lower register. Her nuanced, powerful, and emotionally captivating vocals have been compared to Billie Holiday, Etta James, Ella Fitzgerald, Prince, Erykah Badu, Sade, and Amy Winehouse.

A southern native, who’s also of Puerto Rican heritage, she was born in Georgia and grew up in North Carolina. She studied classical voice in North Carolina before relocating to Los Angeles to study jazz at The University of Southern California with Grammy nominated jazz vocalists Tierney Sutton and Carmen Bradford (Count Basie, Wynton Marsalis, James Brown).

The Return to Queendom, her latest work, was released on International Women’s Day. The record’s theme is about reclaiming our power, and transmuting our painful life experiences into joy, expansion and freedom. The project was co-written and produced by multi-instrumentalist MAST and recorded at Revival at The Complex, the home to Earth, Wind & Fire’s label headquarters and personal studio/rehearsal space. Outside of the core elements of jazz, the album brings together a multitude of genres, adding an LA flavor of all-encompassing fusion that is reflective of the city’s musical history.

Sonically, The Return to Queendom has a magnetism that is embellished into complex layer schemes, beautiful harmonics, and dynamic shifts, traversing through an endless doorway of sound and raw essence. Andrée Belle’s vocals float over the music with every inflection imaginable, hitting multiple octaves and lacing soulful passages with the depths of life. Every musician on The Return to Queendom performs with a heightened sense of virtuosity and energy that elevates the message of the music.

Andrée also serves as the Director of Music and Movement for the nonprofit organization, The Art of Elysium, bringing music and dance to communities in need. She cultivates over 40 music and dance programs a month and serves over 13,000 people in need within the greater Los Angeles area a year. She performs in hospitals and live in facilities bedside for medically fragile children and adults and creates engaging concerts for the homeless in Skid Row.

Andrée’s passion for dance lead her to study Afro-Cuban dance extensively with the prestigious, Raices Profundas in Havana, Cuba. She is also working on a book of poetry and developing her own hot sauce.

friday february 14 | pajama jam

For those of us here in LA, it’s thus far been a solemn and heartbreaking start to 2020 with the sudden losses of people who have meant so much to our city and to our individual circles of friends and family. Fortunately, we’re at the start of a new month, and with it, the hope of abundance and good tidings that may help us put our hearts back together.

Well, it turns out that our next PIÑA event falls on Friday February 14th (Valentine’s Day!) and we’re determined to make it fun and unique. Sooo, we’re inviting you to dress down…waaayyy down…and join us for the PIÑA PAJAMA JAM!! Yup. Come dance the night away in your favorite sleepwear to the sounds of La Junta resident deejays degruvme, Yukicito & Glenn Red and our special guest from world renowned online music program Expedition RadioBIG BAD BABY BUBBA!

NOTE: The emphasis is on sleep’wear’. You gotta have pj’s on (or regular clothes for those coming from V-Day dinner)…or something comparable (sorry to the freeballers who like to sleep in the buff!). And footwear…because every now and then a glass breaks.

See you on 2/14 with lots of love!
