Even though we announced that LA JUNTA will be celebrating the 2018 New Year’s Eve by hosting our PIÑA event on Sunday December 31st, the upcoming second Friday of the month falls during this week on DECEMBER 8, meaning it’s our regular PIÑA party! Above is he flier that I created for it last night. When I sent it out to them this morning, the team immediately alerted me that I had made a couple of mistakes on the date. AND I realized that I hadn’t added the signature pineapple in the background. Anyway I love how it turned out! The pink, chocolate, black and bamboo green tones look great together.

Pictured on the flier is the Vietnamese pop group “3 Trái Táo” (The Apples 3, circa 1975).
If you’re anywhere near DTLA this Friday night, definitely stop by El Dorado DTLA! 9pm / Free.

Not only will we be rockin’ the main room dance floor with our signature Afro-Latin tropical fire, but yours truly and a good friend TBA will be coolin’ out in the back room called The Stowaway with some deep and heavy jazz, hip-hop, and eclectic soul sounds.

Grateful to be back mixin’ at GENERAL LEE’S COCKTAIL HOUSE in the heart of LA’s Chinatown district this Friday November 17! It’s a great spot to both chill after a grueling work week or to jumpstart a fun weekend. The mixologists put together a great list of featured cocktails and its central location between dowtown and the eastside make it a perfect location to meet friends and recount your highs and lows for the week. I might even getcha to boogie a bit 😉 See ya on Friday!

¡que beleza!

Looking forward to this happening on Thursday November 16! I’ve teamed up with an amazing musician friend, Bobby Easton. of the bands Delta Nove, Bloco Nove, Samba Society and event-headliners Os Zagueiros to help move his CASA DE BAMBA event from LA’s mid-city area east to Los Globos in Echo Park! You may also know Bobby as the mastermind of the Long Beach Funk Festival. I think it’ll be a great move for the event, bringing more Brazilian music and culture to another lively part of the city.

I’m excited by the opportunity to play more soul, funk and disco sounds from Brazil (and beyond), especially by artists like Tim Maia, Jorge Ben, Hélio Matheus, Gerson King Combo, Sandra de Sá, Paula Lima, Di Melo, and Trio Ternura in addition to the pagode and samba de coco sounds that I love. Opening up onstage will be LA’s all-female Afro-Brazilian percussion ensemble, BLOCO OBINI, summoning the graces of orixas with their big drum sounds.
