‘dem apples.

Even though we announced that LA JUNTA will be celebrating the 2018 New Year’s Eve by hosting our PIÑA event on Sunday December 31st, the upcoming second Friday of the month falls during this week on DECEMBER 8, meaning it’s our regular PIÑA party! Above is he flier that I created for it last night. When I sent it out to them this morning, the team immediately alerted me that I had made a couple of mistakes on the date. AND I realized that I hadn’t added the signature pineapple in the background. Anyway I love how it turned out! The pink, chocolate, black and bamboo green tones look great together.

Pictured on the flier is the Vietnamese pop group “3 Trái Táo” (The Apples 3, circa 1975).
If you’re anywhere near DTLA this Friday night, definitely stop by El Dorado DTLA! 9pm / Free.

LA JUNTA, my deejay crew and music event of the same name, have announced the dates for our Summer 2017 run. We’ve been working hard to curate an amazing lineup of deejays, live bands and dance groups for our fifth summer season–and our second in DTLA. Yup…we’ll be back rockin’ the super fresh rooftop lounge at Don Chente Bar-Grill & Lounge, across from Staples Center. Above is our teaser flier showing the dates of our series, each show taking place on the LAST Sunday of each month from April through September. For this summer campaign, the La Junta team and I decided on a vintage futbol/soccer aesthetic. Soon you’ll see the flier announcing the lineup for our April 30th Kickoff Event. Can’t wait to show you, and of course, to see you at La Junta!!

Here’s my latest flier for La Junta!

LA JUNTA x OYA BRAZIL 082315 Flyer 720px

This coming SUNDAY AUGUST 23rd, La Junta continues to smolder as we welcome Daniela Brazil Hollywood’s ‘OYA BRAZIL’ in a fully costumed (or should we say ‘barely’ costumed?) live samba dance show! Needless to say, the boys are looking forward to this one 😉 We’ve also invited longtime homie BABY BUBBA from Vibes & Stuff Radio and Soul Sessions to help us keep fanning the flames, as well as a new friend we met two years ago from way down in Quintana Roo while the La Junta fam vacationed in Playa Del Carmen, México. The man’s in town ready to get down in LA just before joining Osunlade, Nickodemus, and Sabo at Burning Man… hope you’ll join us in welcoming our amigo, representing the NO MAS Punchis Punchis stylee–NETZA!

See you there, familia!

<<rwd<< ECLÉCTICA 03.11.2011: Special Guest DJ BENNETT (Amoeba Music)!!

Thank You to all that came through in February and shared the evening with our special guest DJ ASKARI. He truly rocked the house with his special blend of Funk Tribal mixes indicative of his Central American roots and broad international influences. The family at Ecléctica keeps growing as we seek to showcase local talent amongst this vast creative pool that is a part of this L.A. metropolis. This month we are looking forward to sharing the evening with DJ BENNETT (Amoeba Music).

A lifelong music lover and DJ for over a decade, Bennett has been spinning a wide variety of sounds since he began. Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, House, Cumbia, Afrobeat, Bossa Nova, Baile Funk, Baltimore Club, Brass Band, Bounce, Dubstep, Dancehall, Moombahton, and Salsa have all influenced his selections. His sets combine time honored party rock classics, familiar favorites, tasteful remixes and future sounds from many genres to create a unique and soulful sound all his own. A passion for the craft of mixing has led to opening slots for Charles Bradley, Grupo Fantasma, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Ave, the Skatalites, Mad Professor, Barrington Levy, the B Side Players, Jeremy Sole, Sabo, Benjamin LeBrave, Groundation, DJ Magneto, Kid Gusto, DJ Gozar, Canyon Cody, DJ Gazoo, Brooksie, and many more. You can listen to some of his mixes and live sets at http://soundcloud.com/deejay-bennett or follow the occasional tweet at twitter@DeeJayBennett.

Ecléctica takes place every second Sunday of every month at Eastside Luv. This space is not only the coolest spot in Boyle Heights but it makes the best cheladitos and has one of the fattest sound systems around.
