LA JUNTA, my deejay crew and music event of the same name, have announced the dates for our Summer 2017 run. We’ve been working hard to curate an amazing lineup of deejays, live bands and dance groups for our fifth summer season–and our second in DTLA. Yup…we’ll be back rockin’ the super fresh rooftop lounge at Don Chente Bar-Grill & Lounge, across from Staples Center. Above is our teaser flier showing the dates of our series, each show taking place on the LAST Sunday of each month from April through September. For this summer campaign, the La Junta team and I decided on a vintage futbol/soccer aesthetic. Soon you’ll see the flier announcing the lineup for our April 30th Kickoff Event. Can’t wait to show you, and of course, to see you at La Junta!!
Check out our Facebook Page HERE.
Here’s one of my latest flier designs, announcing the first LA JUNTA summer event:
LA JUNTA is back for our fourth summer of good music, good people and good times!! While the boys have been gigging steadily as guests at other events, we’ve missed coming together at good ol’ Fronteras Cantina in Alhambra and partying on the patio like we do!
For our summer kickoff, we’ve invited back the first band we ever worked with at La Junta, way back when we were a fledgling event in east Pasadena. The fellas from LA CHAMBA return with their East Los Angeles working class take on the pyschedelic cumbia chicha sounds that originated in Peru. As with all La Junta events, it will be a heavy dancing affair!
The date is SUNDAY JUNE 26th…start breaking in your summer dancing shoes!!

Here’s my latest flier for La Junta!
This coming SUNDAY AUGUST 23rd, La Junta continues to smolder as we welcome Daniela Brazil Hollywood’s ‘OYA BRAZIL’ in a fully costumed (or should we say ‘barely’ costumed?) live samba dance show! Needless to say, the boys are looking forward to this one 😉 We’ve also invited longtime homie BABY BUBBA from Vibes & Stuff Radio and Soul Sessions to help us keep fanning the flames, as well as a new friend we met two years ago from way down in Quintana Roo while the La Junta fam vacationed in Playa Del Carmen, México. The man’s in town ready to get down in LA just before joining Osunlade, Nickodemus, and Sabo at Burning Man… hope you’ll join us in welcoming our amigo, representing the NO MAS Punchis Punchis stylee–NETZA!
See you there, familia!
We’re down to the final three events of our summer season, which also means we’re bringing out the heavy hitters! On SUNDAY AUGUST 9TH, you absolutely MUST join us for a high energy romp on the patio at Fronteras Mexican Grill Cantina, as LA’s homegrown but internationally known Afro-Latin house music producer/deejay Jose Marquez jumps in the deejay booth for what is sure to be one of hottest and brightest highlights of our summer. We cannot wait to dance together with you!
+21 / FREE!!!
Bring your dancing folk and we’ll see you there!
It’s always in the sidebar widget on this site, but since I’ll be celebrating my birthday at the end of this month, here’s the official Glenn Red DJ Sched for July. Stevie Wonder fans will recognize that the background is from his 1980 album Hotter Than July. Hope I get to see/meet you at one of these events if you’re in the LA area. Here’s my latest flier design for the next LA JUNTA event on Sunday 6/22. The Summer Kickoff event was pretty outrageous and now that we’re smack dab in the middle of futbol’s World Cup, we’re expecting the energy to keep flying high! Hope you’ll join us if you’re in the LA area 🙂
Some of you may remember the word that precedes the lyric above (courtesy of Peaches & Herb, or whomever wrote the song), but it definitely describes the way I feel about getting together with my Afro Funké family members–those on both sides of the turntables. What makes it even more special is that we’ll be together for the first time under the LA evening sky, out at the Levitt Pavilion in Pasadena. The event will mark our first move outside of the traditional night club setting, as well as our first venture together as a team outside of the westside/Santa Monica, across to the northeast corner of LA. To boot, we’ve got a fun and energetic opening act in Brazilian drum troupe BATALA LOS ANGELES. They’ll have the crowd gettin’ down big just in time for my boys JUNGLE FIRE to light up the stage with their hard-hitting afro-latin funk! Hope you get to join us! JUNE 21st 7:30pm.
**flyer: yours truly on the groundwork, Jeremy Sole on the perfect trimming and buffing.
