If all goes well, our SALA events will hopefully begin to take place in real life, live and direct! For now, though, we still gotta play it safe, and so our virtual event returns on Zoom this coming Saturday, May 8th at 8:30pm.
It’s another stellar lineup of activists, visual artists, poets, thespians, musicians, and deejays coming together–as we have during much of the pandemic–to elevate your spirits while you socialize from home.
This month, our featured artists celebrate Mothers’ Day, International Workers’ Day, and Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, so invite those mamas out there to Zoom in!
JOLLENE LEVID (AF3IRM), Opening Remarks
AUDREY CHAN, Visual Art
IRIS DE ANDA, Poetry
SESSHU FOSTER & ARTURO ROMO, Fiction
PATTY CACHAPERO, Solo Performance
NANCY SANCHEZ, Live Musical Performance
GLENN RED & REYES, Resident Deejays
Plus, be sure to move that furniture and stick around for the dance party!
As always, it’s a FREE event…just visit our Facebook event page to grab the Zoom meeting link. Virtual ‘doors’ open at 8pm; full program beins at 8:30pm. See you on Saturday night in your salas!
With the March event having been our most well-attended show thus far, SALA returns on Saturday April 10th with another marvelous lineup of literary, visual and musical artists!
It’s a heavyweight roster, including Favianna Rodriguez (art), Lorna Dee Cervantes and Richard Montoya with his father José Montoya–representing both the future and brilliant past of LA Chicanx poetry, respectively.
Additionally, since Earth Day falls in April, we’ve invited young climate activist Riddhi Patel (Sunrise Kern) to speak on the topic of climate change and environmental responsibility.
Musician Ángel Garcia, aka Mezklah, rounds out the roster of live performances with a short set featuring his signature ‘SpiderMonkey Beats’. All this jumps off before the always highly anticipated dance party with deejays Reyes and yours truly, Glenn Red, gets lit!
The Zoom virtual ‘doors’ open at 8pm with the full program beginning at 8:30pm. As always, it’s a FREE EVENT!

SALA returns this Saturday, February 13th via Zoom! This month, our program touches on themes of Amor (love), Amistad (friendship), Comunidad (community), Black History and Carnaval (via Brazil). That’s a lot, I know, but we’re ambitious that way! We love to celebrate life and all of our communities!
