I’ve also been super busy these just these past few weeks designing promo images for a few clients with upcoming events in August:
Just sharing a bit of what’s been keepin’ me busy during days the last few months:
So, right on schedule and in keeping with past summers, I’ve managed to pull my disappearing act again. I don’t think I’ve posted anything for about two months or so. If any of you have ventured over to the sidebar of this blog, you may have noticed that I usually keep my deejaying schedule pretty up-to-date. A quick glance would tell you that I’ve been a pretty busy dude. In addition to preparing music and doing the requisite promotion duties for those respective events each week, I keep my days busy making fliers for both my gigs and for other peoples’ parties. Here is a small handful of some flier work I’ve done this summer. You may see me post a couple of these images again, along with descriptions of the particular event as they get close. Maybe I’ll see you at a few 😉
LA JUNTA returns on SUNDAY JUNE 26th with our fourth summer series! We’ll be back at FRONTERAS MEXICAN GRILL & CANTINA, but for only four events instead of the eight that we’ve done each of our last two summers there. Instead, we’re working on producing events on a bigger and better scale! It’s 2016 and the time is now to keep reaching upward and soaring! Here’s the splash flier I created that we debuted on our social media channels today to let everyone know that we’re back soon and we’re looking forward to a fun and colorful summer!
Just posting some of the flier work that I’ve created…
The first two are from a film shorts festival in Southeast Los Angeles (SELA) hosted by Urban Badlands and LaLa Fest. The next two are for the upcoming JUJU White Party; one of the finest soul music events in all of L.A. The last is the most recent flier for the newest reggae and dancehall monthly event here in L.A. called ‘Boom Yard’.
My flier submission to Boom Yard Los Angeles was just approved! As I was given a few more days’ time on this new version, I was able to create a new logo for them. As these events continue and their identity begins to take form, it becomes much easier to design in a manner that satisfies both the client and my own sensibilities. It’s been a bit of a struggle making this happen with Boom Yard, but we continually work together to approach the right aesthetic that fits the client at this moment in their evolution.
I also tried out a technique that I’d previously only imagined would work. To make the images of the dancers pop off the surface, I duplicated the original photo. On the upper layer, I first erased around the two ladies, leaving only them. I then blurred the original photo on the bottom. This shows that there was indeed a crowd at the event, hides the background persons’ less active forms, and also makes the ladies stand out. Glad it worked as I thought it would! Be sure to check out Boom Yard on SUNDAY APRIL 10 at DELICIOUS PIZZA in Los Angeles.
Nope. Sorry, fellow baseball fans, the post title doesn’t stand for American League Division Series. That happened back in October. Rather, it’s the acronym for “Afro. Latin. Deep. Soulful.” Kinda like the pillars of good house music. I submitted my latest flier designs for the next CULTURE house music event yesterday. The monthly event is brought to you by UNIVERSAL RHYTHM PRODUCTIONS, SAMBANISMO RECORDS and MODERN SOUL RADIO. I’m looking forward to hittin’ the dance floor once again at this amazing new event. Much respect to TAMARA from Universal Rhythm and resident deejays G and DAVID MONTOYA! For their March outing, they’re bringing on Bell Master Drum Healer DIDA UDENGWU outta Leimert Park to jam live on percussion alongside the deejays. I can’t wait!
