Yo! This event is going to be madness! Our two camps haven’t done an event together since the summer of 2016 when Grand Park brought us in to rock the entire 4th of July Block Party on the main stage for all of Los Angeles. If you were there, you’ll remember what an incredible crowd we had, shaking their bodies all afternoon into the evening, line dancing, zumba dancing and even propelling themselves into the air cheerleader style!!
Save the date! THURSDAY MAY 31st 🙂
P.S. On the flier above, as on the turntables on Afro Funké, it’s a Glenn Red x Jeremy Sole collabo.
Heyyyy! It’s a PIÑA week!! Big thanks to everyone who came through last month for YUKICITO’s amazing birthday celebration. We’re back at EL DORATO DTLA this coming Friday April 13th, laying down the voodoo extra heavy on the dance floor for the occasion. Come on down under the ground and let’s see if we can make some magic once again!
Thursday, April 7th, marks the beginning of AFRO FUNKÉ’s third ‘post-weekly’ year, meaning that we’ve continued to host our event beyond its incarnation as a legendary Thursday evening fixture on the west side of Los Angeles. Since stepping back and ending that 10-year long tenure in late 2013, we’ve given ourselves room to breathe, to reimagine, and to grow. In 2014 and 2015, we were able to throw a handful of very well-attended one-off/’pop-up’ events in parts of the city beyond our original Santa Monica locale, and this year looks to be even brighter! Please come out and reunite with Jeremy, Cary, Rocky and me this week at our beloved and true home, ZANZIBAR! We’ll have some live dance performances and drumming, as well as live painting on the stage. Say YEAH YEAH!
This is the flier that I designed, to which Jeremy lent his golden touch before letting it fly. We’re a pretty good team behind the turntables too 😉
A monthly world music affair featuring the songs and rhythms of deep people with deep roots planted in equatorial lands, tropical coasts, and island shores around the globe.
Join me and special guest dj/selectors as we explore and showcase music from Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and other places within the warm middle latitudes. Expect pagode-style samba, cumbia, bomba, bullerengue, currulao, merengue, reggae, soukous, son, rumba and much more.
