Saludos, Angelen@s!

La Junta are excited to announce that we’ve been invited to present a show this summer at the Levitt Pavilion Los Angeles at MacArthur Park, as part of their talent-packed 2019 series of 50 free concerts!

****

La Diabla
La Diabla has been “cumbiando” since before it was cool, making audiences move and dance floors bounce for over 10 years.

L.A. Bollywood
L.A. Bollywood uplifts the Los Angeles community by sharing the colorful heritage of India, taking audiences on a magical ride

Doctors and Engineers
The LA-based band Doctors and Engineers energetically celebrates South Asian diasporic experience by re-imagining Desi film and folk songs as psychedelic, American garage punk, and creating inspired originals from their own hyphenated identities.

Discostan
The group of DJs known as Discostan exist as musical liberation for immigrants, diasporic communities and residents of the fluid area between South and West Asia and North Africa. Their sounds draw from the past, present and near future, from Beirut to Bangkok via Bombay.

La Junta
La Junta, or ‘the gathering’ in Spanish, serves as both the widely popular brand name of Los Angeles outdoor cultural celebrations that feature tropical Afro-Latin music, and as the moniker of the four-person team that produces the series and other related DJ/live music events.

thursday jan 24 | yanga release party

LA JUNTA are excited to support our friends from YANGA, SoCal’s foremost torchbearers of traditional Afro-Colombian rhythms, as they celebrate the release of two volume singles on Brooklyn-based record label NAMES YOU CAN TRUST. For those who’ve followed La Junta for some time, you already know how much we love the band and that we’re thrilled to work with them every time. The bill also includes the funky, psychedelic Latin sounds of SISTER MANTOS as well as the high energy, discolicious selections of DJ VICK JAGGER. MEL LOERA (formerly of Miss Chief) hosts the evening.

Happy Holidays, Everyone!

La Junta crew (incl. yours truly, Glenn Red) here checkin’ in with you during these mad times. The good news is that 2018 is coming to an end and we’re about halfway to having that opportunity to make things right again. The bad news is that we’re still only about halfway there. Nevertheless, it’s that time of year to focus on being with family and friends and to take the time to celebrate life together. With that in mind, we’ve accepted the call to host our second PIÑA NEW YEARS EVE celebration at EL DORADO DTLA!!

Featuring two rooms of music with:
LA JUNTA SOUND SYSTEM (Yukicito, Glenn Red, Degruvme)
AL JACKSON (Soul Children, Juju)
KRISTI LOMAX (KPFK 90.7FM)
&
a live dance performance by:
SAMBA ROYALE
feat. Samba USA Queen 2015 NICOLEA PETTIS
+
complimentary Champagne Toast at midnight!

We had an absolute blast last year and can’t wait to do it with you all again. And let your friends know…we’ll be one of the friendliest (and most affordable) NYE events in town! Make plans to celebrate with us!

friday november 9 | piña

PIÑA returns to Downtown Los Angeles on the second Friday of November with two special guests gracing the decks! First, in the main room, the main man from LA’s wildly popular tropical bass collective, Late Night Laggers…CHABOI!! Then, in the Coco Lounge, long-time house music connoisseur, BRAD KENT of Melt LA!

And just to keep things fresh but consistent, I’ve also given the flyer a slightly new look with a new background. I’m hoping this also sparks some cool new design ideas as the event continues to morph with the fast-moving musical landscape in LA.

See you on November 9th!
