sunday june 27 | la junta

Hi, Friends!

As you’ve heard by now…LA is back, music is back, and so is La Junta–and we’re out hear doubling up on our moves!

Along with moving our monthly Friday night event, PIÑA, to a historic DTLA venue, we’re also taking our signature Sunday tardeadas to a place with a little bit of history and nostalgia for us and our longtime followers:

On Sunday June 27th, we’re returning to the second floor patio bar in Alhambra, (formerly Fronteras Grill) now known as LA CHUPERIA CANTINA!!

La Junta events tripled in size during our June 2014 to June 2016 tenure at this location. This spot was perfect for our ‘little party that could’ and we hadn’t intended to leave there when we did. It’s just that the party gods had bigger things in store for us!

Now that we’ve made it through 15 months of COVID-19 social restrictions, returning to a place where we feel we have roots makes sense and feels really good. We love the idea of enjoying ‘music, friends, and sunshine’ together in a familiar place, after everything we’ve endured. PLUS, for those weary about attending indoor events, this can be your jam since the patio is open-air on three sides.

The day is coming up quickly, so mark the date, make some plans, schedule those babysitters and let’s get back to doing summer right!!

Where: La Chuperia Cantina || 118 W. Main St. Alhambra, CA 91801

saturday july 25 | moving the movement

These hot days remind us that summer is here! And we can still come together in new ways to connect while doing good.

That is why we have partnered with La Junta Sound System to ‘Move the Movement’! A benefit party benefiting immigrant rights. Get your people and log on to Facebook on July 25 from 4-6pm for a virtual dance party featuring your favorite Cumbias, Salsa, Afro-Latin, and Global Rhythms. All proceeds from this event will benefit CHIRLA.

We know the richness our cultures bring to this country. Yet sadly, millions of immigrants who are deemed essential, work and risk their lives daily to care for this nation without being equally included or protected. La Junta wants to help us change that. And you can too!

The dance party is free so invite your whole tribe – all funds raised that day will
benefit our direct services and advocacy work.
Here’s how to Move the Movement:

RSVP at OnSameSide and receive a CHIRLA toolkit with resources
Share with your friends on social media!
Tune in to CHIRLA’s Facebook on July 25th
So get your moves together, figure out what you are wearing, and tell all your friends
to join you at this can’t-miss summer jam!

saturday june 6 | american cancer society

La Junta LA, the American Cancer Society, and ACS California are coming together on Saturday, June 6th for “Real Men Wear Pink”, an online awareness campaign and emergency response fundraiser to help ease the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. It’s a ‘Virtual DJ Dance Party’ being held across the country on a series of dates during the month-long campaign, with La Junta’s turn to add to the donation total for two hours on the above date. Cancer won’t stop. Neither can we.

We hope to get this message out across all platforms by word of mouth, a tag, a share, etc. so please help spread the word! You can view the lives tream and donate via tiltify.com (see link below), with simulcasts on Instagram Live and Facebook to help connect us in as many ways as possible.
