alley oop!

Above is the first set of photos from last Friday’s opening event of Old Pasadena‘s Day of the Dead celebration titled ‘SALSA ON THE ALLEY.’

Gratitude to the fine people at Old Pasadena’s management office for providing the awesome space and resources (including people power, of course!) that made for such an amazing evening! Much love to my fam LA JUNTA and the band CUBA RUMBA for the fantastic music throughout the short but jam-packed few hours we had together. Extra thanks to our Salsa instructors and featured performers from PRESTIGE DANCE & FINE ARTS, as well as to our conguero SÓLIDO and saxophonista RUBÉN for their tasteful accompaniment during our deejay sets.

Of course, heartfelt thanks to the nearly five hundered beautiful dancers and supporters who showed up en masse on Big Bang Theory Way and filled it from just about one end to the other. Can’t wait until next time!

So the calendar may say that it’s autumn, but the warm sunshine keeps saying otherwise, right? That’s what we love about our city and why we’re so excited to share the details about our next outdoor shindig. With three amazing events at our beloved Don Chente DTLA and a scary midseason move to do three more fantastic shows at the beautiful Hotel Indigo this summer, we’re ready for one last family gathering–a feet-on-the-ground, backyard boogie style getdown at one of the coolest hidden gems of a venue in all of the city!

Huge thanks to all who were part of last Thursday’s AFRO FUNKÉ 2018 Springtime Celebration, performers and eventgoers alike! What a beautiful night!! Special thanks to the homie Eric Parsons aka DJ Elixir who came down from Ojai to deejay the upstairs Townhouse lounge in Venice CA, not just because he put down a solid set behind the turntables and mixer, but he’s also a top notch photographer who shot the great pix in the gallery below. Check out a few of the random photos he took downstairs and outside while he wasn’t droppin’ the jams upstairs. Unfortunately, he had to miss most of Nickodemus’ set since they were slotted to play the same hours, but Nico managed to slip into one pic during the end-of-night sidewalk talk 🙂 Enjoy, and stay tuned for the announcement of the next Afro Funké getdown!
